fios dvrs, stbs connected to coax cable in different rooms. all three models get a new version of the classic tivo "peanut" remote that works over rf for faster response times, and features a wonderful and hilarious new remote finder feature that has the remote play a little song when you tap the icon on the front of the roamio. the verizon stb does not affect the tivo's ability to record. have my netgear r7000 with dd-wrt running from my verizon ont through ethernet. you live in a big household with lots of people recording different things, i would actually skip the pro and buy the 9 tivo plus — my wife and i never needed extra space with our previous 1tb tivo, and you can always expand your storage with an external drive if needed. i'm happy to say for anyone that has or wants to have an all tivo setup with verizon fios using their own router, not only is it possible, but works quite well! after a series of reboots, mysterious clicking sounds, and interminable firmware downloads, i was presented with an essential truth tivo owners often forget:Most cable boxes are complete pieces of garbage. would mean missing the season premiere of breaking bad, so in the interest of saving my marriage i dug our unused fios cable box out of the closet and hooked it up. need one cablecard (of the m-card variety) for the tivohd.

later, i bought two more ecb2500cs to connect to the remaining tivos; i have a total of four. installation is theoretically quite simple: call your cable company and ask for a cablecard, which usually costs a couple bucks a month, and when you get your tivo you insert the card, call the cable company to read off some activation numbers, and then settle in for a night on the couch.’s not to say the roamio is perfect: it can be weird and clunky in places, and tivo should be downright ashamed of shipping that amazon app and those sd settings screens in 2013. installing it can be a huge pain, and it’s outrageously expensive — on top of the box, tivo service costs either . plus i can switch the lan cable going into my own router to the verizon router at any point if they refuse to provide tech support because it's an "unsupported configuration". (also, do you know if verizon uses a "point of entry" filter where it comes into the house to prevent the local area network from being transmitted outside? instead i used the ecb2500c that was included with tivo premeire4 xl and used an ethernet switch [linksys se2500 5-port gigabit ethernet switch (made by cisco)] to connect the tv, br player and other tivo. interestingly, tivo’s making a big bet on html5 tv apps; the roamio actually runs the opera browser engine. why can’t anyone at tivo just spend a weekend fixing this?

. i just had to rerun the network setup wizard and have the tivo create its own moca network, and that was it, at no point did i have to reboot the tivo minis or the roamio itself. doubt it, but i got shuffled from verizon to frontier earlier this year and frontier has poor features an i expect that one to be gone so i decided not to care about impacted services like remote dvr scheduling or using he mobile app for the dvr remote control (which i tested and doesn't work, but that's because my phone connects to a different network segment than the actiontec router is on. have read the info on dumping fios router and i will be doing it soon. verizon will not use it for people with data over 75 megs. i actually didn't expect this since all of the other tivo units (using wireless g adapters) are still on the wireless network which has wireless n capability. if you want to simplify switching between the tivo and verizon box for on demand, then you may want to look into the purchase of a harmony remote. i also have a netgear r7000 that i am trying to get to work with fios! if you have internet and tv, and have both ethernet (cat 5) and coax cable connections coming from the ont into a fios actiontec router, this write up is for you. since the mi424wr appears to have built in moca capabilities and i know one of the tivo devices does, i am going to see if i can make that work.

moca adapters are much cheaper than the tivo wireless "n" adapters . you will record more shows and movies and watch them in more places with a tivo than with your cable company’s dvr, hands-down. article, i'd love to the same thing, only difference is i dumped all my verizon boxes and switched to a tivo dvr with verizon cable card inside and two tivo minis. when i talked to someone at best buy, i was told that you could either use the verizon fios cable box or the cable card. just three days of dealing with verizon’s unreliable, confusing, and frankly user-hostile fios dvr, switching to the tivo roamio pro was an incredible relief. would i even need to bother with a moca bridge if the tivo get all their guide data from the internet? however, a coax splitter at each device was unnecessary since the ecb2500c (unlike the ecb2200v offered by verizon) has a built-in coax splitter. i don't know what verizon has in the system but i read somewhere that the customer did not need to add one for fios. you can still keep the verizon cable box for on demand, but you would need to connect it to a separate input on your tv.

i hope this helps someone who was on the fence or thinking about going this route, i can tell you it does work, and you will definitely save money in the long run by using your own equipment instead of verizon's. (tivo recommends you have at least a 1 megabit upstream connection for the best performance. not only is moca much better, the moca adapters are much cheaper than the tivo wireless "n" adapters. i removed the ethernet cable from the wan port on my fios router and plugged it into my internal router's ethernet port. while tivo’s moving quickly on the new netflix app and the future of html5 apps, the amazon app is an embarrassing relic. you would split the coax signal (radio shack sells splitters if you don't have one), with one end running to the tivo and the other running to the fios hd stb. my tivo setup is as follows:1 tivo roamio pro (connected to the internet via wired cat5e cable)3 tivo minis (all three connected via moca)since the roamio is capable of creating its own moca network, this is why i was able to eliminate the actiontec without having to re-purpose the actiontec router as a moca bridge, or purchasing a separate actiontec ethernet to coax adapter (ecb2500c), which saved me at least . the tivohd has no means to record from another box. tivo roamio pro is very much the ultimate dvr — short of building a media center pc, there isn’t another product on the market that can do as much with as much flexibility as the roamio.
